Two years had passed since we said goodbye to our beloved border collie Max, when a chubby little fluff ball came into our lives. We had been wanting another dog for a while, but our house was under renovations, and we were needing to replace our fences. We kept putting it off, thinking it was not practical to have a puppy yet. We also hadn’t considered a small dog because we were so used to having Max. That is until a family friend informed us, they had recently welcomed a litter of Cavoodle puppies.
Little Gus, named after the chubby mouse in the Disney movie, Cinderella, wiggled his way very quickly into our home and our hearts and we all immediately fell in love with him. While we had the best of intentions to crate train him, not baby him or spoil him too much, in the end we realised, he was happiest when he was as close to us as possible.
Now, nearly five years on, that little dog, is not just a pet. He has his permanent position on any bed he chooses, a cupboard full of toys and treats and an endless list of admirers. We love nothing more than taking him on road trips and holidays or simply just snuggling together on the couch. We couldn’t imagine our lives without him.
Taken in the Treasury Gardens, next to Melbourne's CBD.
