Top 10 Questions You Need to Ask Before you Choose a Pet Photographer in Melbourne
Before you decide on which photographer you would like to use to capture fabulous images of your precious pet, these following questions are a great start to help you make the right choice.
1. Do you have experience photographing pets?
This is important to know because outdoor pet photography is a lot different than traditional photography. Pets move around a lot more and can be difficult to capture on camera if the photographer isn't experienced. The studio has been operating since 2003 photographing both pets and families of different shapes and sizes, So yes, we have lots of experience in capturing gorgeous images.
2. What is your style?
There are many different styles of pet photography, from candid shots to posed portraits. It's important to know what style you're looking for before you hire a photographer. Ella and Friends adjusts the style to suit what the client requires, very much our niche is very much nature and location-based shoots in the dog's favourite location (or the owner's). We try to make it about the pets to show them in their best environment. If you prefer we can create a "studio" feel but we set up the studio at the owner's home to make your pets feel far more comfortable.
3. How much do you charge?
Price is always an important factor when choosing a photographer. Be sure to get a quote from the photographer before you make your final decision. Our photo sessions are $150, which include the design session and a min of 2 hour photo session. Our Artwork prices start at $378, and range up from there depending on the size you are after.
4. How long will it take to get my pet's photos?
This is important to know if you're planning on using the photos for a specific event or occasion. We usually are able to finish these within 8-10 weeks from the viewing. In very urgent situations we can make your work a priority.
5. What is your policy if my pet doesn't cooperate?
Some pets are more camera-shy than others. It's important to know what the photographer's policy is if your pet isn't cooperating during the photo shoot. We have never had the issue of pets being uncooperative ( sure some are more challenging than others, but the challenge is part of the fun of it ) as outdoor shoots are where they are in their happy space, and we always work in a way in which the pets are comfortable. Should the owner feel unhappy with the images during the viewing ( may we point out that this has never happened ), we are happy to reshoot. We are not a studio that deals with volume, we want to provide the best experience for everyone involved by getting the right finish and delivering the right results.
6. Do you have any tips on how to get my pet to cooperate?
If the outdoor photographer has experience photographing pets, they may have some helpful tips on how to get your pet to co-operate. Bringing their favourite treats is ideal, and making it a fun experience for the pet is all you need to do. Don't place too high expectaions on your pet ( or yourself ) If you get stressed or anxious they will sense it right away. Remember keeping it fun and the results can be seen in the photos. For more anxious dogs we recommend an inhouse meet so that they meet the photographer before the shoot.
7. Can I see some examples of your work?
This is always a good idea to see what kind of work the photographer has done in the past. Check out our Images tab.
8. Do you have any references?
It's always a good idea to ask for references from previous clients. Check out our testimonials on our Facebook and Google pages; we have many reviews.
